The Columbus International Children’s Choir (CICC) is a world-class choir offering top quality singing education for singers ages 4-18. The choir is comprised of more than 150 students. All of our staff are musicians with master’s degrees. Tatiana Kats is artistic director and principal conductor, Dawn Beckman - vocal coach and assistant conductor, Kathleen Bates - conductor, Irina Utkina - conductor and principal accompanist.
CICC performs music in a variety of styles and languages. The repertoire includes classical, folk, and contemporary music. The choir may perform sacred choral works of the Christian and Jewish faiths.
Every year CICC gives several concerts for the Central Ohio community and takes concert tours in the United States or abroad. The choir performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, Toronto, Chicago, Fort Wayne, Ohio Capitol Statehouse, and in many other venues. CICC singers performed in concerts with the finest professional musicians including New England Symphonic Ensemble and Columbus Symphony Orchestra. In 2011, the choir hosted and sponsored the Central Ohio Singing Competition for singers ages 18 and under.
Tatiana Kats is the founder of Columbus Music and Art Academy and the Columbus International Children’s Choir. She is artistic and executive director of the choir. Ms. Kats is the conductor of Swallow and Chamber Choirs.
Mrs. Kats earned a Master of Arts degree in choral conducting and a Master of Music degree in piano pedagogy from The Ohio State University where she studied under Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt and Mr. James Gallagher. Mrs. Kats was awarded by National Music Certificate Program as “Founding Teacher ... instrumental in establishing a national standard for developing musicians in the United States of America”.
Before coming to the United States, she worked as a director of a music school and a conductor of youth and mixed choirs in Moscow, Russia.
