SNA School Educational Programs - 2011 Crescent Height High School
 

The Crescent Heights High School theatre group has a tremendous streak of sold out performances in the Medicine Hat community. The most recent show, “Happy Days” has received critical acclaim. Based on the hit television series, “Happy Days” reintroduces one of the best loved families from the 1950’s.

Crescent Heights High School was the Canadian Premiere for the musical and was awarded the first high school contract to perform in North America. There are 40 students from the original cast who performed in Canada who are performing highlights in China. These students have performed in the musicals Annie, Disney’s High School Musical On Stage, Back To The 80’s, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Happy Days. Close to 6,000 people attend the school’s shows per year.

Drama teacher, Jennifer Davies, graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Education Degree in 1996. She was nominated for an “Excellence in Teaching” award through the Alberta Provincial Government and Alberta Learning in 2010. She also has been a presenter at National Fine Arts Conference in 2001 for her Art Program. Ralph Browne has been the Vocal Director for the last three musicals. He is well known for Academy students’ strong performances at the Rotary Music Festival. He is also the Director for the accomplished Selah Singers Choir.

Theatre Arts is a unique program at Crescent Heights High School whose focus is on staging major performances. Students become trained in all areas of production. Students take the knowledge and experience gained in our school and work in University programs and professional settings.
