| The Nisga’a Elementary Secondary School can be found in the Village of New Aiyansh, which is the largest community in the Nisga’a Nation. The Nisga’a Heart land (Lisims), occupies a geographic area, which can be loosely described as the watershed of the Nass River. New Aiyansh can be found about 100 km north of Terrace B.C.
Our School Distict, #92 Nisga’a, is unique in Canada. We are the only provincial public school district which serves a First Nation’s heartland. Ninety eight percent of our students are of Nisga’a heritage.
Our school serves elementary and secondary students from each of the four villages found in the NASS, Gitlaxdamix, Gitwinksihlkw, Laxgalts’ap, and Gingolx. NESS has one hundred elementary students grouped in seven divisions, ranging from Kindergarten to Grade seven. Our experienced elementary teachers are supported by full-time teacher assistants, who actively assist teachers by helping students to access learning and providing them with positive support, which encourages success.
Currently, we enroll approximately 200 secondary students in grades 8 through twelve.
